Vintage knitwear care instructions
If you care for your woollen garment properly, it will last for many years. Wool contains lanolin, which makes the material naturally repellent to dirt. This means you don’t need to wash wool garments very often — and when you do, it’s important to do it gently and correctly. Sometimes, simply hanging the garment outside for a few hours in damp or foggy weather is enough to freshen it up. When washing is necessary, we recommend handwashing at 30°C, or using a gentle wool cycle on your washing machine with a low spin setting. Always use a detergent specially formulated for wool, and make sure the water is lukewarm — never hotter than 30°C. Washing at higher temperatures can damage the wool and destroy its natural properties. Avoid wringing out the garment. Instead, press out the water gently while it lies flat on a towel. Let it drip-dry flat on the towel, replacing it as needed during the drying process until the garment is completely dry. After washing, the garment might feel slightly snug, but it will quickly adjust and fit your body again as you wear it.
Mohair garment:
Washing your mohair garment helps minimise shedding and keeps the fibres in place. And after washing, mohair garments benefit from a gentle brushing with a very natural soft brush to restore their natural texture.
